Are you a passionate about developing your capabilities as a skilled policy professional to lead policy development and work closely with diverse teams and offer strategic advice to senior leadership?

We have an exciting, 2.5 year fixed term temporary flexible full-time opportunity for you to join our team based in Brisbane CBD, where you will have an influential role in shaping the policies strategies that underpin our governments employment, training and skills visions. You will have the opportunity to work with colleagues in other levels of government - state and federal, industry and non-government organisations to achieve policy outcomes and deliver on Government commitments.

Working closely with the Manager, you will provide high-level expertise, guidance and advice, and strategic analysis on policy priorities and projects for the department.

About The Role

As the Principal Policy Officer, you will

  • Undertake research, providing expert advice and strategic analysis to contribute to policy positioning.
  • Manage the development and delivery of priority strategic projects.
  • Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of strategic policy documentation.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships and partnerships with stakeholders, industry bodies, and government agencies.
  • Coach and train other team members to respond to service delivery requirements with a high level of expertise.

  • Think ahead to consider long-term goals and align them, whilst understanding the current environment and its drivers.
  • Excellent collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to convey complex strategy and policy information clearly.
  • Experience in the preparation of a range of high-quality documents that reflect critical thinking, solutions focussed and manage risks and issues and drive intended results.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, show resilience within tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment by setting and revise priorities and a commitment to continuous improvement.
