Description:
Queensland's Department of Environment and Science (DETSI) invites applications for a challenging and rewarding position of a 006 Ranger in Charge, based in the scenic Ingham Management area. Overseeing six staff, this role spans the management of several diverse national parks and state forests, including Girringun National Park, Halifax Bay Wetlands National Park, and Abergowrie State Forest. These areas vary from lush coastal wetlands to dry inland terrain, offering a rich and varied experience.
As the Ranger in Charge, you'll be at the forefront of developing work programs that resonate with the annual business strategy. Your leadership will ensure seamless management of projects, compliance enforcement, visitor relations, and collaborations with conservation groups and First Nations organizations. With duties that extend beyond managerial tasks, you'll lead your team into sometimes remote areas for overnight stays or deployments for disaster management or recovery efforts when needed.
A strong knowledge of fire management and cattle management will be highly regarded for this position. This role requires strategic planning and management of both human and financial resources to accomplish planned outcomes. Critical to your role will be the ability to foster productive relationships with team members, customers and stakeholders, guiding your team through busy periods and maintaining a collaborative work environment.
We are looking for an applicant who embodies the vision and objectives of DETSI, someone who can communicate effectively and proactively engage with the community to enhance the park experience. Your work will require a comprehensive understanding of conservation principles as they concern workplace health and safety, compliance, and emergency response. Additionally, administrative skills such as record-keeping, reporting, and the operation of digital tools are crucial.
DETSI is dedicated to fostering workplace equity and diversity, and as such, we expect every team member to exhibit leadership behaviours that bolster our culture of innovation, respect, and inclusion. This is a role for those ready to demonstrate Team Leader leadership capabilities, as outlined in the Leadership competencies for Queensland booklet.
Eligibility for this position includes Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or a visa permitting you to work in Australia. A manual driver's license is mandatory and medical requirements such as vaccinations and disclosure of pre-existing conditions will be addressed. A strong cultural capability with connections to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander communities is essential.
Be a part of a team dedicated to preserving Queensland's stunning natural heritage.
