About the role

Our Parks branch is seeking x 2 Park Rangers on a Permanent Full-Time basis. In this position you will provide specialist advice regarding relevant statutory legislations, Local Law and Subordinate laws whist keeping our parks safe.

The Park Ranger role is integral to our Branch, contributing towards the promotion of safe parks for the city and its residents. This exciting and diverse role means no 2 days are the same, whether it's attending and supporting community events, assisting state government departments or maintaining parks and bushland security access needs, we are at the heart of and out in our community every day.

Position Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide quality customer service, helping to educate the community, and use conflict resolution to resolve issues & complaints.
  • Undertake on-site investigations, evidence gathering and if needed, provide evidence in Court around Park management issues.
  • Prepare concise and accurate reports, using new technology & mobile applications to capture information.
  • Build strong trust-based relationships with your parks colleagues, contractors, and the wider business.
  • The incumbent will join a team roster that works 10 consecutive days on with 4 consecutive days off.
  • The position may be required to be rostered for after-hours on-call duties

Skills & Qualifications

  • Cert IV in Government (Investigations) or any comparable or higher qualification highly regarded, but the below are a must:
  • Knowledge of the Local Government Act 2009 and Council's Local Laws, in particular Local Law No. 2,4,5,7,9,10,11,12,14
  • Experience undertaking park inspections & investigations, with proven results in determining appropriate actions & recording appropriate data.
  • Providing great customer service, proactively educating customers, and addressing complaints with tact & strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Current ‘C’ Class driver’s licence; with the ability to obtain “R” class bike license desirable.
  • Applicant must undergo a pre-employment functional assessment and be assessed as being able to meet the functional requirements of the position.
  • To be employed in this position, applicants must undergo an employment-related background check/s (reference check) and be assessed as suitable to be able to ethically perform the inherent requirements of the position.
  • Due to the nature of this role, short-listed candidates must complete psychometric testing which is designed to measure a candidate’s potential psychological risk and suitability for the role. Any risks that are identified can be explored further at next step of the recruitment process as well as consideration of required supports.
  • This position has been identified as having a ‘Significant Risk’ of exposure to a disease preventable by vaccination. Therefore, it is a compulsory requirement of the position that the incumbent have the following vaccinations (which may vary in the future) in accordance with the terms of The Australian Immunisation Handbook and Council's Worker Vaccination Management Directive. Vaccines for this position currently include: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and Tetanus.
