Primary objective
Provide strategic advice across a wide range of social policy issues to the Chief Minister, Department of the Chief Minister
and Cabinet senior management, and government agencies and coordinate inter-agency, whole-of-Government
participation in policy development and implementation projects.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Prepare Cabinet Submissions, briefings and correspondence on a broad range of social policy issues.
2. Work collaboratively across government, the non-government sector and the community in responding to social policy
issues.
3. Research and prepare position papers, including the development of options on strategic social policy issues.
4. Project management of ongoing and identified research and social policy projects.
5. Provide timely and comprehensive support to update, enhance and maintain the data dashboard for the Story of Our
Children and Young People and the NT Social Outcomes Framework.
6. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the timely collection and collation of data and information.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in policy research, critical analysis and provision of high-level advice, demonstrating strong
conceptual and analytical skills.
2. Sound knowledge and understanding of contemporary and strategic social issues facing the Northern Territory and of
government policies and strategies to address these issues.
3. Well-developed oral and written communication skills and experience in preparing briefings or reports for a wide range
of audiences, in plain English.
4. Proven ability to consult and communicate clearly and concisely to convey technical information in an understandable
manner.
5. Experience in data management and experience in the application of data dashboards.
6. Demonstrated project management and research skills, including the ability to establish priorities and meet competing
deadlines.
7. Proven ability to work cooperatively and be flexible when managing internal and external stakeholders; and an ability to
interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Tertiary or Certificate IV level qualifications in Project Management or Information Technology.
