Primary objective
Provide policy advice and support, conduct and contribute to complex research and analysis in relation to development, coordination,
implementation and evaluation of domestic violence and youth related policies.
Context statement
The Domestic Violence and Youth Strategy and Policy team provides support and guidance to a range of stakeholders including Police
members, Police Executives and intergovernmental working groups. The role will contribute to design and implementation of significant
reforms within the domestic violence and youth policing fields.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Identify and research policy issues, in particular domestic violence and youth related issues.
2. Lead the analysis and positioning of policy options to recommend and develop solutions.
3. Conduct policy consultation and negotiation on complex stakeholder issues.
4. Prepare a range of policy documents, written briefings and funding submissions for internal and external stakeholders.
5. Monitor implementation of existing policies, conduct reviews to inform future policy development, and coordinate the implementation
of new policy.
6. Provide specialised advice on highly complex and sensitive policy matters.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Experience in policy governance, including a thorough understanding of policy development, implementation, and monitoring and
evaluation processes, and what is required to drive and influence those processes.
2. Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret legislation and business plans, including what it means in operational terms, and
translate strategic intent into policy and procedure.
3. Demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to work with a high level of autonomy and accountability, manage competing
priorities, and meet critical timeframes.
4. High level research skills and ability to think critically and distil evidence, including quantitate and qualitative data, into succinct written
and verbal advice.
5. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships, facilitate dialogue and information flows around government
objectives, and influence change to achieve policy outcomes.
6. Sound political acumen, confidentiality and diplomacy skills.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in a relevant field.
2. Understanding of the role and functions of the NT Police with respect to domestic violence and youth, or ability to rapidly obtain.
