The Regulation Directorate sits within the Transport Policy and Regulation Division and is responsible for driving the Government’s regulation and policy initiatives and ensuring appropriate compliance, behaviour and safe access across our transport networks.

The Opportunity
We are seeking two Senior Prosecutor/Prosecutors to join our Prosecutions Team, and they will be responsible for:

  • Managing, adjudicating and prioritising a high volume of case files to achieve appropriate outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Providing expert advice in relation to legislation and evidentiary provisions relating to offences pursuant to the Passenger Transport Act 1994, Motor Vehicles Act 1959, Road Traffic Act 1961, Harbours and Navigation Act 1993 and other legislation as required.
  • Attending and prosecuting offenders in Magistrates and Youth Courts across the State.
  • Providing recommendations in relation to expiation notice reviews.


The Senior Prosecutor/Prosecutor will also actively participate and contribute to the continuous review of the Prosecutions Team processes which may include undertaking business improvement projects within the Unit to meet government, department and directorate objectives.

Qualifications/Experience
A degree in law is desirable and admitted (or eligible to be admitted) as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia; or

Successful completion of a Police Prosecutor's course.

A sound ability to conduct legal research (statute and common law) and analyse and prepare opinions.

A sound knowledge of criminal law.

Previous court advocacy experience is desirable.

The successful candidates will be appointed at the classification level commensurate with their qualification(s), skills and experience.

Special Conditions
Prior to employment with the Department the successful candidate will be required to provide a:

  • National Police Check (NPC) which must be renewed every three years.
  • Working with Children Check (WWCC) which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry.

Some out of hours and weekend work, along with some intra/interstate travel requiring overnight stays, may be required.

A Driver’s Licence is essential.

Tenure of Vacancy
Two Temporary appointments available being for 12 months and 6 months.

Remuneration
ASO4 - $76,561 to $80,256 pa + superannuation.
ASO5 - $85,790 to $95,413 pa + superannuation.
