- Full time ongoing position
- Salary range: $87,799 - $98,901 plus super plus salary packaging
- Up to $15,900 in salary packaging and hybrid WFH & office model
About the role
This role will accept referrals from internal and external stakeholders and provide timely and targeted information, referral and/or complex legal advice to First Nations help seekers over the phone, by email/webchat or in person. You will work on a range of legal matters and ensure that legal information is communicated clearly and facilitates access to the services of VLA and other agencies.
You will also participate in the development of Legal Help as a centre of excellence for triage, intake and legal and non-legal referral, contributing to best practice service delivery initiatives taking up opportunities for professional development.
This is a special measures role and only First Nations people are eligible to apply, as per the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
This role is based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Country.
About you
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Demonstrated experience working with the First Nations community, including an understanding of the cultural norms, communication styles and complex issues experienced by First Nations peoples.
- Demonstrated high level diagnostic and problem-solving skills to accurately assess and address client needs.
- High level communication and interpersonal skills, including good telephone skills.
- Proven ability to work under pressure with maturity and resilience, deal with challenging clients with complex needs and cooperate in a team environment.
- A current Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner
