MIRRAT is located in Port Melbourne and is a 3 berth, 187,000 sqm facility with 14,500 car slots. We offer a range of integrated on-wharf solutions including vessel berthing, vehicle storage, quarantine washing, and logistics for a wide range of automotive, rolling equipment, and breakbulk products.
The MIRRAT Team handles a broad range of shipment and cargo types including well-known vehicle, mining, and agricultural equipment brands, as well as a wide range of other cargo types including specialty cars, boats, caravans, helicopters, and everything in between.
About the Role
MIRRAT is looking for a Safety Officer based in Port Melbourne, Victoria, reporting to the Operations Manager MIRRAT - Terminal Services. The primary focus for the Safety Officer will be to achieve Safety goals for MIRRAT. Ensuring that Safety is at the forefront of everything we do & lead the cultural change towards the Safety 1st approach providing guidance and framework for compliance matters with the key stakeholders.
Main responsibilities:
- Embrace and foster a strong safety culture by demonstrating strong safety leadership.
- Setting the example by demonstrating strict adherence to MIRRAT’s policies and procedures.
- Supporting and mentoring all staff including the Management team.
- Implementing best practice initiatives to ensure all staff are free from risks to health and safety.
- Ensure MIRRAT is fully compliant with relevant Act’s and state regulations.
- Develop and execute health and safety plans according to internal and external policies and guidelines
- Prepare and implement policies to establish a culture of health and safety – i.e. Safety 1st culture
- Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the relevant law’s
- Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters, and accident prevention
- Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting/ auditing employees and operations across designated sites
- Regularly inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions – and take corrective action
- Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes, and support in handling of employee’s compensation claims when relevant
- Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
- Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- Qualification in Occupational Health & safety, or similar, such as Certificate IV in Workplace Safety
- Experience from shipping, logistics or maritime – or similar industry
- Valid Driver’s License
