The Opportunity
The Principal Transport Assessment Officer is a key player in shaping South Australia’s road and transport network through effective management of development applications and planning proposals. This role requires a strategic approach to delivering timely and expert assessments under relevant legislation, ensuring alignment with the Commissioner of Highways' requirements and broader urban planning objectives. Key responsibilities include high-level advice, reports, and recommendations on transport corridor management, major projects, and urban growth challenges, contributing to the seamless movement of transport across the network.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • A strong background in transport engineering or land use planning, with a proven ability to manage complex development applications and planning matters.
  • Proven Skill in guiding, mentoring, and developing teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling you to influence stakeholders and provide clear, well-considered advice.
  • Proven ability to manage programs and projects efficiently, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to a high standard.

Qualifications/Experience
A degree in Engineering providing eligibility for membership as a Professional Engineer of the Institute of Engineers, Australia is required, or a Tertiary qualification in Planning.

Special Conditions
The successful candidate will be required to provide a National Police Check (NPC) prior to employment with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport which must be renewed every three years.

Some out of hours and weekend work, along with some intra/interstate travel requiring overnight stays, may be required.

Remuneration
PO4 - $110,696 to $120,470 pa + superannuation.
