Position Summary

Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Alice Springs Town Camps, urban Alice Springs, and Central Australia.

The Tangentyere Council Family Support Services provides support for the whole family with a focus on the best interests and outcomes for children. The program provides culturally safe and trauma-informed case management and tailored support to Aboriginal families in Alice Springs with children aged 0-18. We work according to the needs of each individual family, using an approach that is goal oriented, child centred, and family focussed. The service aims to support families to create and foster safe and nurturing environments for children, strengthen parenting capacity and increase resilience, and promote positive outcomes for children and families. Through assertive outreach and intensive case management, the Child and Family Practitioner will support families by addressing immediate needs, coordinating holistic supports, and strengthening existing supports and assist caregivers to increase their capacity to address safety concerns and keep children and young people safe from harm.

The Child & Family Practitioner will be a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills who is committed to working with vulnerable families and children. Additionally, they will engage with stakeholders and community members to promote the program, ensuring it is culturally safe and accepted by individuals, families, and communities across the Alice Springs region.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high quality intensive casework support to families across the scope of early intervention through to statutory child protection involvement.

• Co-ordinate a range of appropriate interagency support services as identified in the case plan.

• Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders.

• Knowledge and application of relevant interventions, practices & theories.

• Work toward sustainable and self-directed change with families. Undertake comprehensive transition planning to assist the family to maintain positive change with less intensive support.

• Documentation, record keeping and reporting as required.

• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and Tangentyere operational objectives.

• Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.

• Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives across the organisation.

• Assist with achieving compliance objectives across the organisation.

• Other reasonable duties as required.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Required

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling and/or relevant experience.

• Demonstrated case management experience in child and family services sector or equivalent and an understanding of current NT legislation.

• Demonstrated ability to perform risk and safety assessments, case work and referrals to a high standard.

• A commitment to community led practice, human rights, self-determination, and cultural safety in practice.

• Demonstrated understanding and commitment to trauma informed approaches.

• Demonstrated understanding of family centred, child focused practice and strengths-based frameworks.

• Demonstrated strong administration, written skills, and ability to utilise electronic databases.

• Current First Aid Certificate, or ability & willingness to attain.

• Current NT Drivers Licence, NT Working with Children (Ochre) Card, satisfactory Police Check, and proof of full (3) vaccination against COVID-19.

Desired

• An understanding of Aboriginal culture as well as a broad range of contemporary issues affecting Central Australian Aboriginal people.
