Description:
We are looking to employ support workers (casual) with relevant qualifications and experience working with persons with disability. We have roles available. Applicants coming from or in close proximity to Melbourne's southeastern or easter suburbs will be given priority
The Support Worker (Casual) will look after clients’ well-being in their daily lives and support them to do things that matter most to them while ensuring an understanding of individual responsibility for safety, quality and risk and adhering to the NDIS Code of Conduct, the organisation’s policies, and procedures and to all relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.
Experience Required:
Health care professional with experience in disability services, home care and community care. Experience with the following:
Working with people with diverse disabilities in varying degrees
Complex care/High needs (multiple diagnoses including mental issues, forensic care, catheter/bowel care, etc)
Challenging behaviours
Autism, ADHD, and other neurological disorders
Physical disabilities (e.g., Spinal Injuries, Cerebral Palsy, etc)
Psychosocial and mental health issues
Personal care
Emotional support
Community access/transport
Demonstrated knowledge of Manual Handling and safe lifting practices
Demonstrated knowledge of medication safety and administration
Hoist, standing machines, transfer equipment and other mobility equipment.
Essential Key Requirements
• At least 1-2 years (paid work) experience in disability
• Knowledge and understanding of home-based care.
• Familiar with a person-centred approach in working with people with all types of disability.
• Skilled in written and verbal communication and administrative skills
• Familiar with a person-centred approach in working with people with all types of disability.
• Competent in computer/technology use and have the ability to learn new programs and applications.
• Must have a personal smart phone and data to enable effective use of client information system and mobile rostering application.
• A comprehensive car insurance advantageous but not essential (required if driving own car)
• Able to work flexible hours and willing to participate in shift work which may include a variety of days, weekends, afternoons, evenings, public holidays, and overnight shift (active or inactive)
• Effective time management, prioritisation, and organisation skills

• Are self-motivated and have the energy and enthusiasm with a positive outlook in life.
• Can speak other languages but not essential.
• Willingness to learn and open to challenges.
Education/Professional Qualifications:
Minimum Certificate III/IV level in one or more of the following:
• Disability/Disability Support
• Ageing Support
• Health Care
• Mental Health/Mental Health Peer Work
• Community Services
• Allied Health Assistance
• Alcohol and Drugs
Or higher qualifications or related fields
֍ Altability will consider students currently studying one of the above or similar qualifications if they have the experience and skills working with people with disabilities including mental health issues and complex needs.
