Description:

The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is dedicated to enhancing employment opportunities and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This position is designated under Section 50 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA), and as such, only Aboriginal people are eligible to apply.

SWAMS plays a crucial role in delivering services to the South West community, aiming to reduce the number of Aboriginal children entering care. By providing culturally appropriate services to at-risk families in partnership with Key Assets Australia, we are deeply committed to advocating for the safety of Aboriginal children, ensuring they remain at home with their families. We are looking for a Male Case Worker for Regional Intensive Support program.

The case worker in the Regional Intensive Supportprogram will work intensively with referred families, building positive relationships to address issues and support families in exiting the service with resolved issues.

Essential Criteria

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders descent under section 50(d) Equal Opportunity Act.
  • Knowledge of the Children and Community Services Act 2004.
  • Basic knowledge of developmental needs of children and young people.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal People, and the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with communities, families, children and young people.
  • Strong written skills, including report writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage own time and work resources.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to liaise with relevant government and non-government professionals, community groups, services, and agencies and present and report information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated research, analytical and problem-solving skills, in relation to case management.

You must have a:

  • Valid and current Driver’s Licence
  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check
  • Valid Employee Working with Children Check
