My Client: My client is a Tier 2 construction company specializing in premium residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects. With an impressive portfolio of high-profile developments, they are known for their commitment to delivering world-class quality and excellence. Their projects range in value up to $200M, showcasing their expertise in managing large-scale, high-value construction.
The Role: Head of Design:
As the Head of Design, you will be a key player in steering the design management function from concept through to successful project delivery. You’ll work closely with the Construction Manager, senior leadership, and other stakeholders to ensure that every project is executed to the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a talented team of Design Managers, ensuring alignment with project goals and design excellence.
  • Collaborate with estimating and construction teams to develop work-winning strategies and value engineering proposals.
  • Manage and nurture relationships with key stakeholders and clients, ensuring successful project outcomes from early design through to completion.
  • Oversee scope management, coordination of design documentation, and ensure all deliverables align with project requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget, while maintaining the highest standards of design quality.
  • Provide expert advice and support to construction teams and clients throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor design output for compliance with the brief, regulations, and design standards.
Qualifications & Skills:
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
  • A Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Design Management, with a proven track record in delivering projects for leading builders.
  • Extensive experience in managing large-scale, high-value projects (over $50M).
  • Strong understanding of Time, Cost, and Scope management principles.
  • Expertise in managing design consultants, contracts, and agreements.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Project, Excel, and ACONEX.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, with a positive and collaborative approach to team management.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:
In this role, you’ll also:
  • Coach and guide your Design team, ensuring timely delivery of key project milestones.
  • Provide design-related advice to administration and construction teams during the early design and planning stages.
  • Review consultant documentation and deliverables to ensure compliance with the project brief and regulatory standards.
  • Assist in updating Certification documents, Maintenance, and Purchaser Manuals.
  • Be the go-to expert for resolving any design-related issues during project execution.
