Position InformationRooty Hill High School is a successful, comprehensive secondary 7-12 located on the Darug lands in western Sydney. Our 1050 students come from diverse cultural, linguistic and economic backgrounds. There are 65 Aboriginal and Torres Islander students and just over 65% of students have a language background other than English. Our purpose is to give each student the opportunity to do his or her best in a mainstream setting. All our students have personalised learning plans and we plan learning journeys and transitions using multiple vocational and university pathways. We have strong relationships with the local AECG, community and with key not-for-profit, university and business partners. We have been recognised in recent years for our leadership in professional practice, student agency, entrepreneurial learning, student academic goal setting and self-reporting, and personalised portfolios that recognise student progress and achievement within and beyond the NESA curriculum and ACARA capabilities. Our Science faculty is diverse and successful in promoting student progress and opportunity.
Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Demonstrated capacity to lead the design and delivery of high-quality secondary teaching and learning programs, and sequences in Stage 4, 5 and 6 Science subjects embedding high quality teaching and assessment practice.
- Ability to lead and build the capacity of the Science faculty team to ensure that all students in Years 7-12 engage and make academic progress in their scientific learning and are prepared for a range of new skills pathways.
- Proven leadership capacity in working with staff, students, parents, partners, and community to give students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds the opportunity to do their best.
- Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to collaborate as a member of the school’s executive team to analyse and apply data and add value to whole school strategic priorities, and projects to sustain a high expectations culture.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
