Position Information

Mount Annan High School is a comprehensive co–educational school offering an extensive curriculum for 886 students, including a support unit of seven classes and Aboriginal cohort of 7%. Our school motto is 'Be the best you can be' and our core values are: Co-operate, Respect and Strive. Student leadership is constantly supported through the SRC and our students have a very high positive profile in the community. Established in 2003, we are very well supported in our community by our parents and local organisations. Over 40% of our staff are new to the school in the past five years including all of the Senior Executive and most of the Executive team. Whilst we constantly strive for excellence, we test ourselves against our annual school targets and communicate via evaluation and feedback with our community on a regular basis. We have built a curriculum path that is individualised and strives to attain aspirational goals in reading and numeracy, HSC results, wellbeing and attendance, and moving all students forward to achieve these goals. Our thorough situational analysis which involved deep consultation with all stakeholders outlined our need to focus on:

  • Student growth and attainment in reading and numeracy through high impact professional learning focusing on whole school programs to support development.
  • Professional Practice to promote staff growth and attainment through building quality learning environments and embedding collaborative practice within the school.
  • High expectations, creating an aspirational culture within the entire learning community ensuring students connect, succeed, thrive and learn.

Our school is committed to providing rich programs and explicit instruction to develop higher order skills in analysing, critical thinking, problem solving and technology enabling all students to 'be the best they can be'.


Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria; Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with and lead the school Welfare and Learning Support teams. Possess highly developed skills in gathering and analysing data as well as using current data to improve student wellbeing and engagement. Possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills for developing links with external agencies, parents and the school community to meet the needs of students from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated capacity to be a dynamic member of the executive leadership team and to lead initiatives that address whole school strategic directions and nurture positive and productive relationships across the school community.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents 5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning 6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
