The Senior Policy Officer Animal Welfare and Wildlife plans, coordinates and manages the delivery of projects and advice relating to animal welfare and wildlife. This includes developing and negotiating policies to support the unit and broader program. The position provides expert policy and management advice related to a range of animal welfare matters and other priority issues.
You will appreciate the nuances of working with sensitive issues relating to animal welfare management and the government’s role in setting policy direction. Your organisation, coordination and project management skills will be your greatest strength, backed up with experience in developing policy and interpreting and administering legislation.
You will have effective written and verbal communication skills and show strong interpersonal and relationship management capabilities to support consultation activities. You will work collaboratively with team members and other stakeholders. Your knowledge and understanding of animal welfare legislation and the ability to learn will position you for success in this role.
