About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and flexible Male Support Worker to provide high-quality assistance to a participant in his early 30s with an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). This role involves working in a Supported Independent Living (SIL) environment and actively engaging the participant in the community to promote independence, well-being, and social inclusion.
As a key support person, you will assist with daily living tasks, personal care, community participation, mealtime management, and skill-building while ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
Flexibility is essential – you must be available for any shift allocated, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, public holidays, and sleepovers.
Applicants must commit to up to 38 hours per week if required (students are not eligible for this role).
The first six (6) months of employment will be a probationary period.
Key Responsibilities
✔ Daily Living & Personal Care Support – Assist the participant with everyday tasks, household duties, and personal hygiene, ensuring dignity and respect.
✔ Community Engagement & Social Inclusion – Support the participant in accessing social and community activities to build confidence and independence.
✔ Emotional & Behavioural Support – Provide encouragement and positive reinforcement to enhance well-being.
✔ Mealtime Assistance & Nutrition Support – Assist with meal preparation and management in line with dietary needs and preferences.
✔ Manual Handling & Mobility Support – Perform safe lifting, transfers, and mobility assistance as required.
✔ Safety & Well-Being – Maintain a secure environment, follow WHS protocols, and ensure participant safety at all times.
✔ Accurate Record-Keeping – Maintain thorough documentation of support activities, incident reports, and progress notes using Microsoft Office and digital record systems.
Essential Requirements
✅ Full Availability & Flexibility – Must be able to work any shift as allocated, including weekends, public holidays, overnight shifts, and sleepovers.
✅ Commitment to Work up to 38 Hours Per Week – Must be able to work full-time hours if required (students are not eligible).
✅ Valid Driver’s Licence & Reliable Vehicle – Must own a registered and comprehensively insured vehicle.
✅ Smartphone Access – Required for communication and shift coordination.
✅ NDIS Worker Screening Check – Must be valid and up to date.
✅ NDIS Worker Orientation Module – Must be completed before starting employment.
✅ National Police Clearance – Must be valid within the last 12 months or obtained before commencement.
✅ First Aid & CPR Certification –
• Provide First Aid (HLTAID011 & HLTAID010) – Must have at least 3 months validation left before expiry.
• Provide CPR (HLTAID009) – Must have at least 3 months validation left before expiry (renewed annually).
✅ Medication Assistance Certification (HLTHPS006 – Assist Clients with Medication) – Must be current with at least 6 months validation left (renewed every 12 months).
✅ COVID-19 Vaccination – Proof of vaccination or immunisation statement required.
✅ Australian Work Rights – Must hold an Australian passport, valid visa, or other proof of work eligibility.
Desirable Skills & Preferred Qualifications
✔ Mealtime Management & Dietary Support – Experience assisting with meal preparation and nutritional support.
✔ Manual Handling & Mobility Assistance – Proficiency in safe lifting techniques and mobility support.
✔ Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Support Experience – Understanding of ABI-related care and behaviour support strategies.
✔ Strong Communication & Interpersonal Skills – Ability to build meaningful connections with the participant and their support network.
✔ Computer Literacy – Proficiency in Microsoft Office, documentation software, and digital record-keeping.
