About the program
A recommendation of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System, the trial supports people experiencing psychological distress to develop skills to manage their distress and connect them to local services for continued support in the community.
ermha365 will work closely with key stakeholders, including people with lived and living experience of distress and people from diverse backgrounds, to design a program for adults who could benefit from non-clinical support as an alternative to presenting for emergency hospital-based care, to reduce demand on the health system.

About the role
The Distress Brief Support Program is an innovative new initiative designed to provide short-term, non-clinical support to individuals experiencing distress or feeling overwhelmed by life circumstances, such as grief, financial hardship, or personal crises. The program acts as a circuit breaker, offering practical guidance and connections to community or mental health services to help individuals regain stability and resilience. Support is provided over a brief period (approximately 2-3 weeks), focusing on immediate needs and empowering individuals with coping strategies and resources.
As a Support Facilitator, you will play a crucial role in delivering this service, ensuring individuals receive timely and effective support in a compassionate and trauma-informed way.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide therapeutic support to individuals in distress, escalating to crisis services when necessary
  • Develop individualised support plans, maintain case notes, and manage administrative tasks
  • Process and respond to referrals in a timely manner and coordinate external referrals to appropriate services
  • Collaborate with community partners and stakeholders to strengthen support networks
  • Work in a culturally safe and trauma-informed manner, ensuring all individuals feel heard, respected, and supported

We are currently looking for individuals for both full time and part time (.9) roles. Flexible working arrangements between the hours of 8am-6pm (TBD). This is a contract position, with funding for this pilot program until 30 June 2027. Successful applicants will be required to start this role on April 30 2025.

It is a requirement of this position to meet all compliance requirements concerning NDIS Work Screening, Working With Children's Check, work rights and possess a current & valid driver’s licence.
