About the opportunity
The Enterprise Aviation Processing (EAP) system is CASA's Regulatory Application Processing platform. As part of the EAP Operations team, you will be responsible for maximising the benefits to CASA from the EAP application.
The Technical Administrator will be expected to have well developed analytical and decision-making skills to support completion of activities and to deliver defined outcomes, including the provision of technical operational advice for EAP. This will require research and the application of expertise.
You will be required to work under limited direction, exercising reasonable autonomy and accountability in the undertaking of work that can be complex in nature to deliver for business section, branch and CASA outcomes.
You will be able to assist with the development of system enhancements, troubleshooting end user issues and work with EAP specific projects such as major software upgrades.
The role will generally have significant contact with other staff in CASA, other government agencies, and may represent CASA on specific EAP issues at internal or external forums. This position may require some out of hour’s work, including meetings with the software vendor and system upgrades.
The Technical Administrator is responsible for the following deliverables:
- Provide expertise, support and technical knowledge in EAP to users of the EAP application and to CASA’s EAP User Group representatives.
- Development and delivering software enhancements for CASA business areas and responding to stakeholder needs and expectations.
- Working closely with other areas of the Information Technology Branch to ensure consistent approach is used across teams in delivery outcomes for EAP.
- Providing operational support for CASA’s Online Services including the management and design of workflows and SQL type queries.
- Working with the vendor to resolve complex EAP incidents and improve EAP functionality.
- Developing changes, bug testing, and updating of EAP configuration and master data.
- Leading project type work such as EAP upgrades and roll out of new functionality.
- Coordinating the revision of EAP manuals, training materials and workflows to retain currency with regulatory changes and as each new release of EAP is implemented.
- Assist with EAP training for end users at an ad hoc basis.
- Working with operational areas to ensure that EAP is appropriately updated to reflect regulatory changes.
- Represent CASA on EAP related issues at internal or external forums.

Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- Experience in using and providing support for a Commercial Off The Shelf software.
- Ability to work cooperatively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage tasks and projects with tight timeframes.
- Digital/IT capabilities and an understanding or experience in SQL type queries and creating and amending system workflows.
- Experience in system configuration and security groups.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly identify and document the root cause of an issue.
- Ability to make decisions using good judgement, expertise and knowledge under limited guidance.
- Ability to function across multiple projects with overlapping timelines.
- Experience supporting or developing enterprise ICT business applications.
- Experience assisting with system upgrades by testing, lodging bug fixes, flagging potential changes that may impact end users and working with a vendor for any escalated issues.
- An understanding of CASA’s regulatory services, surveillance processes and/or sound understanding of the Australian aviation environment.
- An experience in or an understanding of relational databases.
Eligibility Requirements
Employment with CASA is subject to conditions prescribed within the Civil Aviation Act 1988. The following eligibility requirements apply to this position:
- At minimum, prospective CASA employees must undergo pre-employment screening. You must be willing to provide required information to successfully undergo a police record check.
- Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident and must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
