About This Opportunity

We are seeking two dedicated professionals to champion health, safety, and wellness across UQ’s construction delivery projects.

The Manager, Health Safety and Wellness (Construction Delivery) will provide strategic leadership, and general oversight of Principal Contractors occupational health, safety, and wellness activities across UQ’s construction projects. You will lead the generation of new safety management process and procedures with the P&F PMO, oversee WHS audits and compliance, and implement initiatives that foster a strong safety culture by Principal Contractors across construction sites.

The Principal Advisor, Health Safety and Wellness (Construction Delivery) will play a key interface role between Principal Contractors, the P&F PMO and the P&F Project Managers. You will conduct regular site audits, lead incident investigations (as required), and advise university stakeholders on best practices to ensure WHS compliance and continuous improvement, particularly during the early design phase of projects.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead WHS strategy implementation across construction projects, ensuring compliance with legislation, UQ policies, and industry best practices.

  • Oversee contractor safety management, conducting audits, inspections, and risk assessments to maintain high safety standards.

  • Develop and deliver WHS training programs, ensuring all personnel are equipped with the necessary safety knowledge and practices.

  • Investigate incidents, analyse safety trends, and implement proactive measures to mitigate risks.

  • Foster a positive safety culture by engaging with stakeholders, coaching staff, and collaborating on initiatives that promote workplace well-being.

About You

For the Manager, Health Safety and Wellness (Construction Delivery) role, you will bring extensive experience in WHS leadership, contractor safety management, and strategy implementation within a large organisation or construction setting. Your ability to interpret policies, implement procedures, and drive best-practice safety initiatives will be key to your success. Strong engagement, negotiation, and influencing skills will be essential, along with the ability to analyse and interpret complex safety data to inform decision-making.

For the Principal Advisor, Health Safety and Wellness (Construction Delivery) role, we are looking for an experienced WHS professional with a strong understanding of safety principles and legislation, particularly within construction. You will have a track record of implementing WHS policies, conducting risk assessments, and promoting a positive safety culture. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills will be critical, as well as the ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities effectively.

Both roles require a high level of computer literacy, strong organisational skills, and the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders to influence and enhance workplace safety.
