Base salary will be in the range $100,554.29 - $109,496.46 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 7)

The Assistant Manager Operations will be required to facilitate the efficient conduct of a range of research projects in the QASP facilities and assist in the general facility management and maintenance.
This will involve working with the Senior Manager to ensure that the appropriate protocols and procedures are developed, implemented and followed in relation to conduct of research trials, animal handling, occupational health and safety, animal ethics and welfare, biosecurity, biosafety, administration and day-to-day operation of the QASP facilities.
Key responsibilities will include:

Manage research trials, including setup, monitoring, and reporting.

Develop and maintain research protocols and resources.

Advise and support researchers, staff, and students.

Supervise research support staff.

Assist with budgeting, financial reviews, and business planning.

In consultation with the QASP Senior Manager and QASP Assistant Manager Research, develop and implement staffing plans to ensure appropriate staffing for individual research trials as well as the routine operations of QASP.

Maximise facility utilisation and oversee maintenance.

Manage new constructions and liaise with contractors as well as train staff in use of tools in the workshop

Implement process improvements and sustainability initiatives.

Completion of an undergraduate degree; completion of an associate diploma and at least 2 years subsequent relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or relevant education/training.

Demonstrated high level of competence in the conduct of livestock management. Experience in livestock research trials including knowledge and understanding of the University's animal welfare and ethics policies, guidelines and practices and their implementation in the research workplace is not required but will be highly regarded.

Advanced technical skills in data collection, livestock handling, and research sample management.

Familiarity with WHS policies and procedures in a research environment.

Proficiency in IT systems supporting research, staff, and organizational administration.

Experience in staff management, development, and coordination of research teams.

Ability to plan, schedule, and maximise the use of research facilities and resources.

ISO9001 experience (highly regarded but not essential).

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with staff, researchers, and clients.

Strong problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to prioritize workload and meet deadlines independently.

Mechanical and workshop skills.
-
Confident in representing QASP at forums and delivering presentations.

Valid Queensland C class driver’s license.
The successful candidate may be required to complete background checks including, Right to work in Australia.
