About the Role
The After Hours Manager (AHM) is responsible for the overall management of the Health Service out of hours. The position encompasses evening, night and weekend shifts.
This role is responsible for:
- Providing leadership and management to staff of Acute and Residential Services
- Assumes the Role of the Emergency Coordinator in response to Emergency Codes
- Provides clinical, management and professional leadership ensuring appropriate standards of care are developed, maintained and continually improved.
- Ensures resources are maintained within budget allocation, encompassing human, financial and environmental resources.
- Maintains and develop effective working relationships with members of the medical group and Senior Management Team.
- Act as a resource for staff (nursing, medical and others) and patients and their families
- Co-ordinate and maintain appropriate nursing staff levels through consultation with clinical nurses, redeploying staff and engaging casual staff as required
- Ensure compliance with the safe patient care act
- Maintain an awareness of patient/nurse dependency throughout the shift to assist the safe co- ordination of staff and patients
- Maintain adequate pharmacy and other resources to support effective and appropriate patient care
- Investigate VHIMS incidents
- Ensure the smooth release of bodies from the mortuary after hours when necessary for coronial or religious reasons
- Identify strategies to improve financial viability and cost effectiveness whilst maintaining quality care.
About You
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse Division 1 with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- At least 5 years nursing experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing staff and unexpected clinical events.
- Post graduate studies in relevant area of practice or health care management.
- Health care management experience.
- Proficient computer skills.
