WHV Extension Opportunity
Working on ACLE’s Solar Farm projects may qualify eligible candidates for a Working Holiday Visa (WHV) extension.
Primary Objective
The Multi Operator is responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery and equipment essential for the construction and maintenance of solar farm projects. Reporting to the Site Supervisor, this position ensures the safe and efficient operation of equipment while adhering to project timelines and quality standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
General Machinery Operation:
- Operate a range of heavy machinery and equipment, including but not limited to excavators, bulldozers, skid steers, and forklifts, to support construction, installation, and maintenance activities on solar farm projects.
- Conduct pre-operation inspections and routine maintenance checks on equipment to identify and address any mechanical issues or safety concerns before commencing work.
- Perform tasks such as grading, trenching, excavation, and material handling as directed by the Site Supervisor, contributing to the completion of project milestones in a timely manner.
- Assist in the loading, unloading, and transportation of materials and equipment using designated machinery, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
Grader Operation Duties:
- Read and interpret plans and specifications to determine the required grades and slope.
- Adjust blades and other grader attachments to achieve the desired finish.
- Maintain an even distribution of material on the surface being graded.
- Ensure precision in grading operations to meet project specifications and quality standards.
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow established operating procedures and safety protocols to ensure the safe operation of machinery, minimizing the risk of accidents or injuries to oneself and others.
- Adhere to environmental regulations and sustainability practices, minimizing the impact of construction activities on the surrounding ecosystem and community.
- Respond promptly to instructions, signals, and communication from the Site Supervisor and other team members to facilitate efficient and coordinated operations on site.
Collaboration and Reporting:
- Collaborate with construction teams and other site personnel to coordinate equipment usage, optimize workflow, and support project objectives.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, fuel consumption, maintenance activities, and any incidents or near misses, assisting in project documentation and reporting.
Qualifications & Experience
Experience:
- Previous experience operating heavy machinery and equipment in a construction or industrial setting.
- Experience operating machinery specifically in the context of solar farm construction or renewable energy projects is desirable.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of a valid White Card (Construction Induction Card) demonstrating knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements in the construction industry.
- Relevant machinery operating tickets, including but not limited to:
- Excavator license
- Forklift license
- Grader Operator ticket
Skills and Knowledge:
- Familiarity with equipment maintenance procedures and the ability to perform basic mechanical checks and adjustments.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices related to heavy equipment operation, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Strong spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination, and depth perception to maneuver machinery safely and accurately.
- Effective communication skills to receive and convey instructions, warnings, and operational information to team members.
Physical Requirements:
- Physical stamina and dexterity to operate machinery for extended periods and perform manual tasks as required.
- Adaptability and flexibility to work in diverse weather conditions, terrain, and environments, adjusting operating techniques as necessary.
Desirable
- Experience operating machinery specifically in the context of solar farm construction or renewable energy projects.
- Additional certifications or endorsements relevant to specific types of equipment or specialized tasks (e.g., confined space entry, working at heights).
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards governing construction activities in the renewable energy sector.
- Familiarity with GPS and other advanced technology systems used in modern heavy equipment for precision and efficiency.
