Your Opportunity

Contribute to the effective and efficient operations of the Workshop by carrying out repairs and maintenance to Council plant, equipment and infrastructure. To be successful in this role you will need to have extensive experience as a qualified Heavy Vehicle Mechanic and be passionate about becoming a key member in Council's Workshops. Currently two positions available at the Warwick Workshop and one position available at the Stanthorpe Workshop.

Term: Full-time

Hours of Work: 76 hours per fortnight

Pay Level: $2309.20 to $2425.85 per fortnight (Level C10 - C8), plus superannuation and annual leave loading

In addition to the above pay rate, you will receive payment of the following:

Above Award payment - $304 per fortnight

Tool Allowance - $49.40 per fortnight

Dirt Allowance - $0.80 paid for hours worked

In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependant on relevant skills and experience.

Employment Base: Warwick or Stanthorpe, Queensland

Other Information: There are three vacant positions located across Warwick (x2) and Stanthorpe (x1).

  • Proactively carry out preventative maintenance and repairs on Council plant, equipment and infrastructure.
  • Assist with ordering and collection of parts.
  • Maintain water and sewerage treatment and pump station facilities.
  • Use own judgement in solving problems on the job.

What You Will Need

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • The legal right to live and work in Australia
  • Current open "C" (Car) Class licence
  • Occupational Health and Safety Construction Induction Card ('White Card") or the ability to obtain prior to commencement.
  • Recognised trade qualification as a diesel, heavy vehicle or mobile plant motor mechanic.
  • Enter and Work in Confined Spaces competency or the ability to complete within 12 months of commencement.
  • Forklift Licence (Licence to Perform High Risk Work LF) or the ability to obtain within reasonable period.
  • Immunisation record indicating Hepatitis A& B vaccinations or immunity; or the ability to be vaccinated in accordance with Council's Immunisation Procedure.
  • To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description

Qualification and Licences that would be Desirable

  • Current open "MR" (Medium Rigid) or "HR" (Heavy Rigid) class Licence
  • Completion of Certificate II in Automotive Air-Conditioning and possession of the National Air Conditioning Licence.
  • Competency in MIG, TIG and stick welding

About the Department

The Parks & Operations Department delivers a range of services internally and externally which contribute to the overall service outcomes of Council. As part of the Infrastructure Services Directorate, the Department delivers an extremely diverse range of operational field roles including maintenance of Council parks, gardens, buildings and playgrounds. Other services include management of building service contracts, fleet mechanical repairs and supporting grieving families through our cemetery services. The Department also delivers capital works projects for Council buildings, parks and cemeteries, and as part of its field work manages the procurement and disposal of road vehicles and heavy plant operated by Council.
