The Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a Manager Emergency Animal Disease Preparedness to be part of our Biosecurity Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.
PIRSA's Animal Biosecurity program protects and facilitates market access and livestock productivity, public health and consumer confidence through the health, welfare, quality, safety and image of South Australian livestock and livestock products, and other animals. Global trade access for livestock and livestock products increasingly requires demonstrated minimum standards of animal health and welfare.
The Animal Biosecurity group provides a system for animal disease early warning and early detection of exotic diseases; develops programs for data collection to allow monitoring of animal health status and proof of disease freedom; and maintains capacity for emergency animal disease management.
The Manager Emergency Animal Disease (EAD) Preparedness provides leadership and direction to ensure the strategic deliverables of the EAD preparedness program are met. Leading a team of technical specialists the role will be accountable for identifying and developing the required capability to ensure an agile EAD Preparedness program and management of animal health risks across Animal Biosecurity and the state of South Australia.
The role will collaborate closely with and influence key national and state industry bodies and other stakeholders to strategically lead the development, implementation and maintenance of EAD Preparedness requirements for South Australia in context of national and state frameworks.
The Manager EAD Preparedness will work closely with the CVO Unit regarding addressing animal disease risks and priorities and be guided by strategic, technical and policy directions for Animal Biosecurity by the CVO unit and the statutory and technical requirements of the CVO in a response.
The Manager EAD Preparedness role contributes to deliver the agency's priorities including increasing productivity of our livestock industries and agribusinesses, securing production through Biosecurity and efficient and sustainable use of resources, and maintaining market access by working with livestock industries to respond to evolving requirements of domestic and global markets and consumers. The role contributes to the management of the risks to South Australia posed by animal pests and diseases.

Requirements
- Possession of a current driver's license and willingness to drive.
- Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required.
- Australian residency or current works permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
- You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations when applying for a role.
- The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.
- The incumbent will be required to participate on the shared Emergency Animal Disease Hotline roster.
Remuneration
ASO8 - $121,107 min - $125,679 max per annum, plus superannuation
