About the Role:
We have an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that provides technical instruction and support for Chemistry undergraduate classes and associated services for teaching in the School of Molecular and Life Sciences.
No two days are the same in this fast-paced and engaging role where you will be able to put your strong problem-solving skills to the test.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of Chemistry laboratory classes, including the preparation of laboratory material, instrumentation, maintenance of equipment, ordering consumables and equipment for practical classes and planning and testing of experiments before practical classes.
  • Providing technical support to research programs including high-end analytical instruments and assist in the efficient and safe operations of research activities and the day-to-day requirements of the laboratory.
  • Ensuring all Curtin’s Health and Safety systems, policies and procedures are adhered to, including developing Risk Assessments and Safe Work Practices when required.
Who we are looking for:
  • A relevant degree qualification; or relevant trade post-trades certificate or advanced certificate and extensive relevant experience as a technician; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in conducting experiments and/or experience in the application and use of equipment and/or systems relevant to the discipline.
  • Demonstrated oral communication skills with the ability to interact effectively and professionally with staff and students at all levels, as well as the ability to effectively communicate information and provide instruction to others.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to ensuring Occupational Safety and Health practices and regulations are followed.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team as well as independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated effective written communication skills with the ability to produce documents, correspondence, records, instructions and procedures which are clear, accurate and concise.
  • Demonstrated commitment to participate in up skilling programs and professional development to ensure operational and technical knowledge is consistent with continuing developments in professional practice.
Role Requirements:
  1. As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered
  2. Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction.
  3. Candidates must have a level of fitness commensurate with this position.
  4. You must be flexible to work between the hours of 8:30am - 8:30pm (supported by flexi-time arrangements).

It boasts an ambitious, multi-disciplinary and industry-focussed team that seeks to equip its students and graduates with the skills they need to make tomorrow better. Academics from different disciplines work together to perform high quality teaching and innovative research, and to support each other in achieving at the highest possible level in all aspects of academic life.
