Description:
The successful candidate will be accountable for the delivery and maintenance of Optus Fibre networks. This role involves technical understanding and engaged in the commissioning and maintenance of Core and Access network infrastructure.
You will conduct day-to-day operations, maintenance, and integration of the Optus aerial, underground, and submarine optical fibre network. The primary focus will be on network integrity, supervision, splicing, and testing of new fibre circuits, as well as maintaining these circuits. Additionally, you will act as a mentor, trainer, and point of escalation for Optus Technicians and contractors.
The day to day
- Coordinate resources within the work group, including contract Fibre Technicians, to meet installation and delivery dates.
- Perform project-specific work as required to local and national standards.
- Schedule and report on routine fibre maintenance.
- Report to the Team Leader all defects found within the Optus network while carrying out assigned duties.
- Review and prepare design packages for outsourcing of splicing tasks as per business requirements.
- Coordinate, review, and submit detailed work plans prior to submitting Permit to Work (PTWs) for complex cutovers and relocations.
- Collate data and submit fibre loss sheets, OTDR traces, and PMD test results to the Records Team.
- Perform quality inspections on all works carried out by Fibre Technicians to ensure company policies and procedures are followed.

- Flexibility to work in an on-call roster as required.
- Extensive experience in the Telecommunications field with practical knowledge of Optical Fibre cables, cable laying and jointing techniques.
- Hands-on experience in fibre splicing, fault finding, and testing using various methods and equipment.
- Knowledge of OTDR and OLTS testing equipment.
- Good physical health as lifting, climbing, working at heights will be required for this role.
- Experience in a team environment.
- Current driver's licence is critical.
