About Hentys Lawyers

Hentys Lawyers is a leading industrial law firm, known for its unique, employer-only advocacy and representation. We work with local and international businesses at both state and federal levels, providing seamless, one-stop-shop solutions in workplace relations, employment law, industrial relations, workers’ compensation, and occupational health and safety throughout Australia. Our clients count on us to support their day-to-day HR and compliance operations, minimise litigation risks, and fiercely defend them when disputes arise.

Why Join Us ?

  • We are Melbourne’s only true one-stop-shop for HR departments, combining expertise in commercial, employment, and industrial relations law with a hands-on, client-focused approach.
  • Oh, and we believe in workplace humour as sharp as our legal skills — think Deadpool, not Dilbert. If a bit of irreverence keeps your days interesting, you’ll feel right at home.
  • We’re located just one block from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station, making your commute a breeze.
  • Enjoy close proximity to courts, top eateries, and the shopping district — convenience and variety at your doorstep.

About the Role

We continue to experience significant growth, and we’re looking for a seasoned, ambitious lawyer with at least 5 years PAE to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to take the next step in their career, mentor junior lawyers, and work towards partnership while expanding their expertise in a dynamic, hands-on legal practice.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide expert legal advice on workplace relations, employment law, and workers’ compensation matters.
  • Represent clients in employment litigation and defend Work Health and Safety matters and prosecutions.
  • Assist with policy drafting, compliance strategies, and dispute resolution for employer-side clients.
  • Supervise and mentor junior lawyers, sharing your expertise and fostering their professional growth.
  • Gain exposure to commercial law matters, working alongside a high-performing and collaborative team.

Key Requirements

  • Associate-level experience in employment law, with a strong background defending Work Health and Safety prosecutions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Industrial and Workplace Relations, including the Fair Work Commission.
  • Exceptional and sophisticated drafting in plain english, negotiation, and advisory skills.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced, dynamic and high-performing environment.
  • A Deadpool-esque sense of humour (yes, we’re serious) — if you can laugh at the absurdity of life while getting serious results for clients, you’ll fit right in.

What We Offer

  • A genuine pathway to partnership for the right candidate.
  • A diverse and engaging workload — no two days are the same.
  • A collaborative, fun, and dynamic team culture where humour is embraced, and results are celebrated.
  • Convenient CBD office location, steps from Southern Cross Station.
  • The opportunity to mentor and lead, working with a team of talented junior lawyers eager to learn.

How to Apply

If you’re ready to lead with confidence, laugh with conviction, and grow your career in a unique, employer-focused legal practice, we want to hear from you! Send your resume and a cover letter that shows off your legal expertise and personality to **@hentys.com.au, or click apply.

At Hentys, we believe serious legal work and serious humour go hand in hand. Apply today — and don’t be afraid to bring your best (or worst) jokes.
