As Coordinator Arts and Culture, you’ll play a crucial leadership role in delivering creative experiences, creating places and spaces, nurturing creative industries and fostering the ongoing engagement of our community in arts and culture.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide expert advice, research and planning to position Council’s strategic intent and role in arts and culture development for the municipality, translating this work into strategic and policy documents.
  • Support, advocate and plan for the provision of arts and culture facilities across the municipality in conjunction with other key officers of Council and stakeholders.
  • Advise Council on arts and culture development trends and activities to identify opportunities for arts development within Hume City.
  • Present proposals and recommendations to Council that will contribute to the enhancement of Council’s art and culture activities.
  • Facilitate arts and culture activities that build cultural capacity and contribute to social inclusion.
  • Develop promotional material and programs to enhance community participation in arts and culture activities within Hume City.
  • Establish strong partnerships with key stakeholders including artists and arts organisations, community and business organisations, other government and non-government agencies and schools to develop, implement and support the delivery of arts and culture activities.
  • Guided by Councils core values, lead and provide day to day management of the Arts and Culture team to deliver on Council Plan, Creative Community Strategy and the Arts and Culture Infrastructure Plan objectives.
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in arts and culture programming, promotion, planning, strategy and policy development in a Local Government setting, with a focus on social inclusion and community capacity building.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently lead, motivate and develop staff and to draw people together with a shared vision.
  • Knowledge and skills in working with culturally diverse communities and an understanding of outer metropolitan growth corridor locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with artists, arts organisations and external agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience in securing funding and support for arts and culture development initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of budgeting and relevant accounting and financial procedures.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage, promote and market arts and culture projects and activities.
  • Excellent written and presentation skills and experience in the preparation of timely, clear and concise reports, project briefs and correspondence.
  • Current Driver’s Licence.
