About the Opportunity
Exciting opportunity to join the Advocacy team at the NSW Small Business Commission. You will contribute to a range of policy development, project management, and administrative activities to support the Commission's advocacy for small business. You will use your experience to support the team to research, analyse and review complex policy issues, identify emerging issues, and develop evidence-based advice and recommendations. Your written and verbal communication skills will contribute to supporting production of written communications, including correspondence, briefs, reports and submissions. Your will support stakeholder engagement activities to develop relationships within and outside of government to support the advocacy for small businesses in NSW.

The NSW Small Business Commission is an independent statutory office of the NSW Government. We provide strategic advice, advocacy and affordable dispute resolution services to small businesses across NSW. Our role includes:

  • encouraging government agencies and larger businesses to enter productive working relationships with small businesses
  • facilitating and encouraging the fair treatment of small businesses
  • promoting a fair operating environment in which small businesses can flourish.

As a key advocate for small businesses across NSW the Commission aims to ensure small business needs are front-of-mind for NSW Government decisions, support and assistance. The Commission also plays an important role in connecting small businesses, councils and industry groups to vital information and support services.
The Small Business Commission is part of the Department of Customer Service. DCS is transforming the way NSW Government agencies interact with customers. We are passionate about putting the customer at the centre of everything we do and adopting new technologies to create better outcomes for the people of NSW.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in the delivery of a range of policy related projects and initiatives to facilitate the timely delivery of policy objectives
  • Undertake basic research and analysis in assigned areas and contribute to the preparation of reports to inform decision making and contribute to policy development
  • Contribute to the preparation of draft correspondence, papers, and minutes to support the development of policy initiatives
  • Provide a range of administrative activities, including coordinating working groups and committees, to support stakeholder engagement as well as policy development and implementation
  • Provide assistance to small businesses enquiring about government policies and requirements, and respond to routine policy queries to ensure the provision of consistent advice and information
  • Update and collate documentation and records regarding policy development, implementation and relevant issues, to support the effective delivery of policy initiatives Role Description Assistant Policy Advisor, Strategy 2
  • Provide administrative assistance to support the management and delivery of key organisational projects.

To be successful in these roles you will have:

  • Demonstrated capability or experience in a policy role with understanding of business highly valued
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Stakeholder engagement experience
  • Project management skills.

Salary Grade 5/6, with the base salary for this role starting at 97,027 base plus superannuation
