Job Title: Environmental LawyerLocation: Sydney, AustraliaPosition Type: Full-time, PermanentSector: Legal (In-house, Lee Family Office) About the Role: We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Environmental Lawyer to join the in-house legal team of Lee Family Office based in Sydney. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing and advising on complex environmental legal matters that impact the family office's diverse portfolio, with a focus on land, agriculture, conservation, and sustainability projects. The role requires a versatile legal professional who is adept in both advisory and litigation work, and who possesses a deep understanding of environmental regulations and practices in Australia.Key Responsibilities: Provide comprehensive legal advice to the family office on environmental matters.Lead and support litigation efforts related to environmental disputes, including property and land use conflicts, regulatory compliance, and climate-related claims.Develop and implement strategies for environmental risk management and ensure compliance with Australian environmental laws and regulations.Advise on large-scale agricultural and land development projects, including sustainable land management practices, biodiversity conservation, and water resource management.Collaborate with external legal experts, consultants, and government agencies to manage complex environmental issues.Review and negotiate environmental agreements, such as conservation easements, carbon credits, and environmental impact assessments (EIAs).Stay current with evolving environmental laws, climate policies, and trends, providing proactive advice on changes that may affect the family office’s assets and investments.Engage in strategic planning for environmental impact mitigation and sustainability initiatives, including advising on carbon emissions reduction, renewable energy investments, and eco-friendly practices.Assist with internal and external communications related to environmental issues, including public advocacy and stakeholder engagement.Advise on public sector property issues including Crown Land and Native Title matters
Skills & Qualifications: You will be at Associate level ready to step up with at least 3 years PAE in Environment and Planning law.Experience in managing client relationships, handling high-stakes projects is essential.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.Strong negotiation skills with experience in drafting and negotiating complex environmental agreements.
