Job DescriptionReporting to the Managing Lawyer, you’ll have opportunities for growth and development in a trusted and supportive team. You will have a key role in advising the Ombudsman on land access issues and provide advice to Executive leaders on telecommunications regulatory matters. You’ll relish the opportunities to sharing your knowledge with internal and external stakeholders.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Providing expert advice on land access matters and preparing land access decisions for the Ombudsman’s consideration.
- Contributing independent and valued legal advice on a range of legal matters and emerging risks.
- Communicating with a range of external stakeholders, including telecommunications companies, land owners and their representatives.
- Sharing your expertise to develop and evolve a robust suite of operational procedures, and guidelines as well as delivering training to grow the knowledge of TIO’s employees.
You will have telecommunications regulatory experience; exposure to land access matters within other relevant sectors (e.g. the energy); or you may have worked with regulators, government, or ombudsman services.
To be successful in this role you will need
- A tertiary qualification in law and significant post qualification experience
- A current Victorian practicing certificate (or entitlement)
- Experience in investigating and managing complex matters and in preparing written decisions
- Experience with land access matters and/or administrative decisions that are subject to judicial review (desirable)

The Legal, Policy and Regulatory Affairs Group (LPRA) provides legal advice to the Ombudsman, Executive Leadership Team, and wider functions of the TIO to help achieve their strategic goals and manage risk. This team is inclusive, supportive and knowledgeable.
