We are currently seeking applications for Principal Accountant to join the South Australian Government Financing Authority at the Department of Treasury & Finance.

The South Australian Government Financing Authority (SAFA) is the central financing authority, captive insurer and manager of the passenger and light commercial fleet operations for the Government of South Australia. It also provides extensive financial and commercial advisory services to the South Australian public sector.
SAFA plays an integral role in the overall management of the State Government's finances and risks, harnessing economies of scale and expertise in financial and insurance markets to provide a range of treasury, insurance, commercial advisory and vehicle fleet management services.
About the opportunity:
The Principal Accountant is responsible for managing large and complex claims, including matters which may be politically sensitive or have broader reputational impacts and/or may create precedents for the Government.
The position is a 12-month contract, with the potential for ongoing.
About you
To be successful, you will have:
- Ability to analyse and evaluate complex financial information and providing high quality advice and recommendations taking into account stakeholder requirements and needs.
- Proven ability to design and implement reporting processed for business by exercising significant levels of expertise, knowledge and competence.
- A high level of written and verbal communication skills as well as presentation skills that establish credibility and good working relationships with people at all levels both within and external to the agency.
- Ability to work autonomously, with minimal supervision.
- Ability to plan, prioritise and organise work to achieve goals and meet deadlines, including dealing with competing demands and managing multiple projects and tasks in in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to establish and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with a range of diverse stakeholders
- Australian Permanent Residency.
Desirable Expertise
- Experience in accounting or analytical reporting - preparation and interpretation;
- Advanced financial and reporting systems and Excel skills;
- Experience working with large data sets;
- Experience working with business stakeholders;
- Driving improvement of reporting effectiveness and understanding;
- Detailed analysis and commentary on business performance reports;
- Researching new opportunities and working with key internal clients to provide support for projects and initiatives.
