We are currently seeking applications for Payroll Specialists to join the Medical Team within Payroll Services, Shared Services SA at The Department of Treasury & Finance. We are looking to fill multiple positions on an ongoing basis.

Remuneration: ASO4 – Salary Range ($76,561 - $80,256 per annum) + 11.5% Superannuation

Shared Services SA is a branch within the Department of Treasury and Finance. It delivers corporate and business services to a range of SA Government agencies and improves the delivery of internal administrative services by developing simpler, faster, more robust, and efficient processes and systems.

About the opportunity:

The Payroll Specialist plays a lead role in payroll processing for public sector medical officers in accordance with agreed service levels, complex industrial provisions and legislative requirements.

The role oversees high level operational outcomes driven by payroll service delivery requirements and projects or change activities and assists with upskilling staff by providing quality assurance, coaching and mentoring to team members.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Proven experience in payroll processes, and the use of a computerised payroll system or other relevant database (e.g. CHRIS 21). Prior experience in processing timesheets and other payroll transactions for medical officers is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to work effectively either as an individual or member of a team and build strong working relationships with others.
  • Demonstrated success ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction in accordance with established services levels.
  • Experience interpreting and applying relevant legislation, policies and procedures associated with the provision of payroll or HR-related services.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills, including advising management on complex matters.
  • The ability to coach and mentor others to uplift skills and address competency gaps.
  • Experience in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • The ability to produce and analyse statistical information and reports on a regular basis to assist in evaluating the efficiency of the team and to inform resource allocation and service improvements.

  2. How do you identify quality issues or trends? What validation techniques do you use to pick up errors and mitigate further issues?
  3. How do you manage priorities in a fast paced, high volume processing environment?

You are also required to provide details of 2 referees and complete a pre-employment declaration. A satisfactory General Probity Check clearance is required for this role, this will be initiated by the department prior to employment.
