The key duties of the position include
The Role
The APS 6 General Asset Assurance Team Leader - VIC/TAS will undertake essential functions to ensure the efficient execution and management of the Defence agreed General Asset stocktake program within the Victorian/Tasmanian region. The APS 6 will manage a small team; provide support to colleagues in other regions and to the Enabling Team within Canberra as required. The role within the Directorate of Defence Stocktaking requires an enthusiastic, self-starter who has the ability to contribute to all aspects of stocktake activities across Defence using systems and tools in accordance with policy and procedures.
There is an element of travel by vehicle and/or aeroplane associated with this role. The incumbent of this position will be required to undertake frequent multi-day local and regional travel, and occasional interstate travel.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
  • Lead the planning, scheduling and reporting activities for the stocktake program.
  • Using specific databases and applications in both an office and field environment.
  • Conducting stakeholder engagement via email, phone and face-to-face in both an office and field environment.
  • Conducting stocktaking and assurance activities in field training areas, warehousing or base environments.
  • Performing investigations and stocktake remediation/reconciliation duties.
  • Reviewing and updating policy, work practices and procedures as required.
  • Attending and contributing to various working groups, forums and meetings.
  • Performing general administrative tasks.

About our Team
The Directorate of Defence Stocktaking is a small team who prides themselves on being trusted, reliable and responsive in the provision of subject matter expertise across all aspects of stocktaking within Defence. The Directorate of Defence Stocktaking works closely with Defence Group and Service Tier 3 Logistics Compliance and Assurance representatives, Defence Finance Group (DFG) and external stakeholders to deliver efficient and effective asset assurance services, support and reporting both within Defence and as part of whole of Government requirements.
Our work includes coordination and execution of General Asset assurance activities for all Groups and Services within Defence, working with DFG to clarify asset assurance requirements, updating Defence's Fixed Asset Register and reporting outcomes to internal and external stakeholders over the three year reporting cycle.
Our asset assurance team members deliver nationwide services from offices in ACT, NSW, QLD, NT, WA, SA and VIC.
Our Ideal Candidate
As the ideal candidate, you will have strong business support skills and will be effective at applying your knowledge and experience to lead a small team, set work priorities, and manage workflow and resources. You will possess well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written, for engaging key stakeholders through liaison, negotiation and consultation; and will develop high level reports for senior Defence committees, conduct analysis of data, maintain registers, identify opportunities for continuous improvement and is able to adapt to the needs, tasks and responsibilities of the Directorate.
The position will work within a framework of legislation, established principles, work practices and procedures in accordance with Defence's business objectives. The position is based in Victoria Barracks Melbourne.
