Achieve are recruiting for an Ecology Technician - Townsville
YELLOW CRAZY ANTS eradication expert
This position will undertake specialist natural area and waterway management including revegetation works, habitat management, fire management, waterway management, water quality monitoring, litter collection, weed management, soil assessment, erosion and sediment control, emergency response (fish kills/oil spills), propagation techniques, wildlife management (bat dispersals and monitoring).
Provide support to Environmental events, activities and projects sites (including schools and community landcare areas) and to assist in educational projects/events including School Shade Tree, Guest Speakers, Eco Fiesta, Clean-Up Australia Day, National Tree Day etc.
Carry out general construction work including fencing, sand ladder construction, cementing, erecting signage, fire break construction and walking track construction.
Safely operate and maintain specialist equipment including aquatic weed harvester, fire units, 4x4 vehicles, water quality equipment, spray trailers, generators, deutcher, brush cutters, chain saws, hand tools.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Cert III Conservation and Land Management
  • Manual C Class Drivers Licence
  • Recreational Boat Licence
  • Current Agricultural Chemical Distribution Control Licence.
  • 30215 QLD - Course in General Safety Induction (construction industry).
  • Traffic Control Licence.
  • Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices Level 2.
  • Chainsaw / Polesaw Certificates.
  • Fire Fighter (Vegetation).
  • Sound knowledge of natural area management including revegetation, habitat management, on-ground fire management, waterway management.
  • Sound working knowledge of environmental services maintenance practices and procedures, including plant and maintenance.
  • Exercise responsibility for Work Health and Safety, Environmental Protection, EEO, Anti discrimination and privacy obligations.
  • Sound knowledge of specialised equipment and its service and maintenance requirements.
  • Capacity to work in natural areas and conduct revegetation, plant identification, fire and weed management.
  • Problem solving abilities and skills
  • Driving 4x4 and reversing with trailers
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment medical incl D&A
  • Show a clear Police check
