How will I help?

As a Data Specialist, you will be responsible for leading a team who manage and analyse data from multiple sources, prepare and create key reports and dashboards, and ensure accuracy and relevance.

Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will deliver high-quality, reliable metrics that track performance and delivery effectiveness, unlocking the potential of our data to drive measurable business improvements. Your expertise will shape the way we define, measure, and enhance quality across operations. By harnessing advanced data science techniques and exploring emerging industry metrics such as DORA, you will provide deeper insights that drive innovation, optimise delivery, and push the boundaries of how we measure success

The primary and core responsibilities entail:

  • Develop a deep understanding of the Westpac landscape, including databases, data structures, tools and procedures.
  • Investigate and recommend cutting-edge technologies for implementation, like Machine Learning and AI to enhance data analysis capabilities and uncover valuable business insights from diverse data sets.
  • Analyse large, complex and diverse data sets to form a holistic view of delivery and operations to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities. Manage and influence the data integrity and quality across all Delivery and quality related tools to guarantee accurate reporting.
  • Actively participate in identifying, defining, and implementing process improvements.
  • Fostering a data-centric culture within the team and organisation.
  • Continuously explore innovative analytics methods to enhance data analysis capabilities enabling team members to provide valuable business insights.
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists, Analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements that help to deliver effective solutions.
  • Create and maintain business reporting systems, including executive dashboards and operational reports, to provide real-time actionable insights for strategic decision making.
  • Maintaining comprehensive documentation and contribute to the process and knowledge library.
  • Provide analytical support to team members across the division.
  • Develop, maintain and optimise Westpac’s Data Lake to ensure seamless data integration, accessibility and scalability.
  • Contribute and co-lead a metric centric user-group to collaborate across the organisation.

What do I need?

  • Proven experience as a Data Scientist or in a similar analytical role, with experience in statistical analysis, data mining, data engineering principles, and end to end (E2E) data extraction, cleansing, mapping and visualisation.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, Power BI (including DAX calculations, report formatting, and visualisation).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to guide and motivate teams.
  • Ability to engage stakeholders and communicate data-driven insights clearly and effectively.
  • Exceptional problem solving and analytical abilities, with the capacity to translate business needs into technical solutions and manage complex data sets.
  • Keen attention to detail, a strong commitment to data quality.
  • Experience with Jira, with a strong focus on understanding and translating business requirements into data reporting and analysis.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

  • JavaScript, ReactJS, Java, Microservices / API’s, UI Automation (Selenium).
  • Continuous delivery and DevOps, Containerisation, Automation, Amazon Web Services, ‘Evergreen’ platforms.
  • Complex and disparate non-production environments (modern & legacy) and data landscape.
  • SQL and Python coding experience.
