The Role
The ABC is looking for a reporter to research, pitch, and produce original stories for the ABC NEWS Verify team while developing and providing verification skills for the wider ABC NEWS network.
The Job
- Research, investigate, and produce content for ABC NEWS Verify across digital, social media, video, and audio platforms.
- Monitor and investigate misinformation during major events like elections and verify user-generated content during emergencies.
- Stay updated on news, current affairs, and best practices in verification, including open-source intelligence and AI techniques.
- Contribute to training and share expertise with ABC NEWS staff in verification practices.
- Generate stories that reflect Australia's diversity and engage with communities to find relevant stories.

About You
You'll have highly advanced digital and broadcast journalism skills with experience working in a fast-paced news environment and a strong understanding of the way news stories are broadcast and presented online, including social media and methods of online content distribution and engagement.
You'll also have:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent skills and experience in journalism.
- Advanced digital journalism skills with experience in online content distribution and engagement.
- Excellent writing and communication skills, with excellent editorial judgement and attention to detail.
- Highly developed skills in open-source intelligence newsgathering, verification techniques and social media research.
- Broad knowledge of local, national, and international news with a commitment to diverse content reflecting the Australian community.
