Introduction

Centacare North Queensland is a not-for-profit organisation that provides counselling, family support, mediation, family dispute resolution, disability services, education and courses, crisis housing and homelessness support, youth services, community engagement and NDIS services. Centacare services the North Queensland community from offices in Townsville, Ayr, Bowen, Mt Isa, Cloncurry, Longreach and Normanton.

Support will be provided in a number of environments including the individual’s home, residential setting, respite facility or the community. Support workers develop and implement programs aimed at building capacity and achieving an individual’s goals, working within a Client Directed framework.

This position is a ‘risk assessed role’ and is subject to the NDIS worker ‘no card’ ‘no start’ rule *

Description

Joining a values-driven, supportive and inclusive team, you will:

  • Participate in the process of achieving individual client goals and objectives and assist in monitoring those outcomes
  • Organise and/or facilitate outings and activities that relate to meeting the goals of the Individual.
  • Support and encourage individuals to develop independence and personal, community and social relationships.
  • Assist with domestic support and meal preparation, including cleaning, washing and shopping assistance.
  • Follow Individual’s / or their Family / Carer requests when providing support, within Centacare’s policies, procedures and relevant legislation.

Skills And Experiences
To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Can complete a variety of shifts; including days, overnight sleepovers and active nights, some weekends and public holidays, some Respite House, and community access.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificates.
  • Client directed and person centred.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and relate well to people we support, their families and the community.
  • Willingness to use own vehicle and devices.
  • A current Driver Licence.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain both an NDIS Worker Screening and a Working with Children Blue Card *
  • National Police Check
  • Comprehensive Car Insurance

It also desirable, but not essential if you also have:

  • A qualification in the Disability, Aged Care or Community or similar.
  • Experience in the delivery of personal care.
  • Experience with Mental Health.
  • Experience with Positive Behaviour Support Plans.

*Centacare NQ is a registered NDIS provider, and this position is subject to the NDIS worker ‘no card’ ‘no start’ rule. This position is classified as a ‘risk assessed role’ under Part 1, section 5 of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (Practice Standards—Worker Screening) Rules 2018 and in accordance with Queensland legislation, an NDIS Worker Screening must be obtained prior to commencing work in the role.
