The Risk and Governance Consultant is accountable for assessing, analysing, recording, monitoring, reviewing, and reporting risks that creates uncertainty or threatens the achievement of the strategic objectives of SAAS. This role is also responsible for applying the Department for Health & Wellbeing’s System Risk Management Policy Directive and Risk Management Framework within SAAS as well as ensuring that risk management practices are aligned with SAAS Executive’s defined risk appetite and tolerances.

Key Responsibilities:
Risk Management:
- Implement and advise on risk management processes, including identifying risks, assessing their impact, and developing mitigation strategies.
- Update existing risk profiles and develop new ones based on workshops and assessments.
- Facilitate risk management workshops and manage significant, escalating, and emerging risks.
Governance:
- Develop and manage governance structures, decision-making frameworks, and accountability mechanisms to ensure adherence to high standards.
- Provide advice on the roles, responsibilities, and effectiveness of committees and governance bodies.
- Review and enhance the structure and operations of committees across the organization.
Reporting and Communication:
- Prepare reports, proposals, recommendations, and briefings for various stakeholders, including the SAAS Executive, committees, and the Department for Health and Wellbeing.
- Communicate and escalate significant risks to relevant parties in a timely manner.
- Present risk assessments and reports to directorates and committees as directed.
Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration:
- Foster collaborative and engaging relationships with stakeholders across the organization.
- Engage with all directorates to develop staff skills and knowledge in risk management and governance.
- Maintain strong, mutually beneficial working relationships with entities within SA Health.
Education and Training:
- Educate staff on risk management methodologies, practices, and the application of relevant standards and frameworks.
- Conduct risk assessments in conjunction with staff, taking into account cross-directorate impacts.
- Review risk assessments performed by staff, providing guidance and expertise.
Administrative Support:
- Manage multiple administrative work demands with broad direction.
- Prepare concise written reports, proposals, recommendations, and briefings as requested.
- Coordinate and manage administrative tasks related to governance, such as maintaining committee registers and coordinating the Annual Report.
