Are you passionate about providing culturally sensitive care and making a meaningful impact on the hospital journey of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients? We’re seeking a dedicated Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer to provide vital support to patients and their families in the Murray Bridge region. This is a unique opportunity to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients receive the best care possible while navigating the healthcare system.

About the Role:

The Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients receive culturally safe and sensitive care throughout their hospital journey. Working in close partnership with clinical staff, you will offer cultural support, advocate for the needs of patients and their families, and help navigate the healthcare system. You will ensure continuity of care from admission to discharge and work collaboratively with local community health centres to support ongoing health needs.

  • Provide cultural support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients admitted to the hospital in Murray Bridge, including their escorts.
  • Assist patients in navigating the healthcare system, providing guidance throughout their hospital journey, from admissions to discharge.
  • Support communication between patients, families, and clinicians to ensure healthcare information is provided in a culturally sensitive manner, considering any language barriers.
  • Explain healthcare and clinical procedures to patients in an easily understandable way, ensuring cooperation and informed decision-making.
  • Coordinate transport arrangements for patients and their escorts to ensure safe travel to and from the hospital.
  • Act as a cultural consultant and resource for clinical staff, ensuring that culturally appropriate services are delivered to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.
  • Advocate for the use of language interpreters when needed and ensure Aboriginal status is acknowledged and recorded appropriately for patients.

This is your chance to make a significant difference in the healthcare experience for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients. If you’re dedicated, compassionate, and ready to contribute to improving health outcomes, we encourage you to apply!

What We’re Looking For:

  • Significant experience in working with Aboriginal individuals, their families and communities.
  • Experience in working in a health and multidisciplinary setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing, developing and maintaining effective networks, alliances and relationships with Aboriginal individuals, organisations and communities.
