The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has opened up in the City Environment & Sustainability department for a Senior Environmental Planner. Reporting to the Coordinator Environmental Services, you will provide leadership to Council’s environmental planners and coordinate the provision of high-quality environmental planning advice and responses to protect the natural environment in our rapidly growing municipality.
As a highly skilled environmental / biodiversity planner, you will also utilise your strengths in strategy, collaboration and influencing others to lead organisational policy and process change to support biodiversity and environmental outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate the work of Council’s environmental planners, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.Provide high level technical expertise and leadership in the areas of biodiversity, environmental assessment and environmental planning.Develop procedures, policies and systems that support Council’s strategic and statutory planning processes and contribute to the development of environmental strategies.Monitor and report on Council’s performance relating to biodiversity, the natural environment and environmental planning matters.Support compliance investigations by coordinating site inspections, providing expert advice and representing Council on compliance matters.

About You
To be successful in this role you will have the following:
Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, natural resource management or related discipline.Substantial environmental planning experience in a growth area.Highly developed biodiversity and native vegetation knowledge and ability to conduct and analyse complex ecological assessments.Demonstrated experience in policy, process/procedure and strategy development.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Current valid Victorian Drivers Licence.
