Position overview
The Specialist Advisor, Plumbing supports the Head of Inspectorate as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and authoritative advice and application on complex matters relating to the work conducted across the Inspectorate.
The role will provide a single point of technical knowledge and expertise that underpins the field-based activities across Audit and Surveillance, Preventative and Specialist Inspections streams to ensure the VBA conducts complex inspections and audits under a risk-based framework to meet the current and future needs of industry, practitioners and consumers.
The role will also be pivotal to extensive stakeholder engagement both internally and externally with relevant industry parties to develop programs and deliver on VBA initiatives that improve industry outcomes, to engage in regulatory matters and to influence reform.
What we are looking for:
* Experience of the plumbing industry and an advanced knowledge of the Plumbing Regulations 2018, regulatory frameworks, codes, regulation standards and Government Policy.
* Registered and/ or licenced Plumber (all main classes of regulated plumbing work (water supply, sanitary, drainage, roofing (stormwater), mechanical services, fire protection))
* Other special classes of plumbing such as Fire Protection, Refrigerated Air-conditioning and Type B Gas fitting work are desirable.
* Demonstrated extensive experience in conducting site inspections and audits in a regulatory environment on all Classes of commercial and domestic buildings, including Class 2 apartment buildings
* Develop capability of the Inspectorate teams by provision of technical support, knowledge sharing across the teams and advice following the analysis of outcomes from inspections
* Demonstrated capability to participate in strategic reviews and prioritisation of projects.
* Ability to enhance the VBA's profile with stakeholders including liaising with building industry stakeholders and technical specialists.
