The Position
The Director, Decision-making Policy is responsible for planning and implementing a project to develop
and apply a framework for the assessment of Sustainable Diversion Limits as part of the 2026 legislated
review of the Basin Plan (2012) (Cth) (Basin Plan). The role works closely with other parts of the Basin Plan Portfolio and the Murray-Darling Basin Authority, other agencies of the Australian Government, the Basin States and Territories and wider stakeholders.
Your Key Responsibilities In This Role Are To
Lead, coordinate and manage the development and application of a complex, time sensitive and significant project for the 2026 Basin Plan Review. The project will involve developing a framework to support the assessment of Sustainable Diversion Limits during the Basin Plan Review. This will include coordinating the development of a robust multi-disciplinary evidence base by identifying, sourcing, and synthesising a range of complex information to support decisions and inform a range of possible responses. Develop and manage effective and collaborative relationships with the MDBA Executive and Board, Ministerial stakeholders, internal and external subject matter experts, and key government and industry groups.Collaborate with internal socio-economic, environmental science and modelling teams to ensure projects align and translate science to policy to support decision-makers. Represent the Basin Plan Review Project, Program and/or the MDBA at internal/external meetings and committees and inter-departmental and interjurisdictional working groups.Coordinate the preparation of reports, submissions, briefing notes, presentations, publications and correspondence relevant to the project. Undertake project and budget planning, monitoring, prioritisation and reporting mechanisms against key milestones.Lead, manage and motivate a small team to deliver strategic outcomes.
