The Opportunity

Reporting to the Safety and Wellbeing Manager, you will oversee day-to-day Work Health and Safety operations across various sites, including Southern region, Western region and Storm Bay.

A Day in the Life as a Work Health and Safety Lead

  • Lead by engaging with leaders and teams to ensure high standards of operational safety, support, and technical advice.
  • Manage a small, influential team of work health and safety advisors addressing daily safety concerns.
  • Conduct timely, high-quality incident investigations, promoting accountability for corrective actions and risk management.
  • Manage and coordinate risk assessments to identify controls and mitigate operational hazards.
  • Collaborate with the broader safety and wellbeing team, communicating key messages and sharing learnings.
  • Promote and champion a strong and accountable safety culture across Houn.

About You

  • An authentic people leader who fosters a supportive team environment, providing mentoring and development through on-the-job training.
  • Experienced in leading and delivering WHS initiatives in complex environments, with tertiary WHS qualifications, operational WHS lead experience, and robust knowledge of WHS legislation and standards.
  • Skilled in engaging with stakeholders at their level, providing clear and simple advice and support, while coaching on safety best practices and offering expert advice.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills by clearly conveying information, actively listening, and adapting messages to suit diverse audiences, ensuring mutual understanding and fostering positive interactions.
  • Holds an unrestricted and current Australian driver’s licence.
