Description:
About us:
Orana Enterprises Pty Ltd is a Tasmanian family-owned forestry harvest and haulage contractor operating all over the state of Tasmania. We employ over 120 local people from a diverse range of backgrounds in roles working as forestry machine operators, log and chip truck drivers, workshop/field technicians and support staff, and in administration, compliance, and safety roles.
Our business contracts for three major Tasmanian forest managers and harvests over 600,000t/pa of log product in plantation hardwood, pine and regrowth native forest estates with twelve active harvest crews operating around the state. We transport over 1,000,000t/pa of logs and run a truck fleet of over 50 company owned prime movers.
The position we need filled:
Operator movements within our business have created a vacancy on one of our East-Coast based native regrowth thinning operations for a Harvester Operator. This position requires the operator to run one of our Waratah debarking/delimbing machines. You will commence employment with a 3-month casual probation period before moving to full-time employment.
The ideal candidate will have experience operating harvesters in a forestry setting, will be comfortable debarking tree length eucalyptus regrowth straight into roadside stockpiles and will be able to work well in a small crew environment.
This operation primarily works along the “M Road” network of the Permanent Timber Production Zone Land (PTPZL) that was previously clear-felled to supply the Triabunna woodchip mill and local sawmills throughout the 1970-90’s. It would suit candidates based in the Tasmanian Midlands, the South-East or along the East Coast.
Although the job will come with a fully maintained work vehicle, fuel card and allowances for reasonable personal, for fatigue management and production reasons we don’t want you travelling hours each way to work so consider if this position is in the right area for you before applying. You will be required to provide your driving history to our insurer but if they tell us you’re a bad risk, we may be unable to provide you with a vehicle.
Mandatory criteria:
• You must be willing and able to pass a pre-employment medical test and drug screening.
• You need to hold a current FOLS card or equivalent nationally recognised statement(s) of attainment related to the advertised position.
• Have experience operating Waratah or equivalent mechanical debarking machinery in a plantation hardwood, native regrowth or native forest setting.
• Have a current and unrestricted drivers licence.
• Be based around the South-East of Tasmania.
• Applicants with Certificate 3 or 4 level Forest Operations qualification will be favoured.
