Job Title: Collections Officer – History, Culture and The Arts

Job Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Collections Officer to join our team in preserving and promoting the history, culture, and arts of our organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining collections, conducting research, coordinating exhibitions, and ensuring proper documentation of artifacts. This role requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of historical preservation practices.

Skills:

– Proficient knowledge of historical artifacts handling techniques

– Strong research abilities with an emphasis on history, culture, or arts

– Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

– Attention to detail in cataloging collections using industry-standard databases

– Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration within the team as well as with external stakeholders

Responsibilities:

– Manage collections including acquisition processes, inventory management, conservation efforts.

– Conduct detailed research on artifacts within the collection.

– Collaborate with internal teams such as curators and exhibition designers to plan exhibits that highlight specific themes or time periods.

– Develop engaging educational programs related to collections for public outreach initiatives.

– Ensure accurate cataloging of items using industry-standard databases or collection management systems.

– Coordinate loans or exchanges of artifacts with other cultural institutions while maintaining appropriate documentation.

– Monitor environmental conditions (temperature control/humidity) within storage areas to preserve artifact integrity.

Qualifications:

-Education: A bachelor’s degree in history/culture studies or related field is required. Master’s degree preferred but not mandatory.

Experience:

-Proven experience working as a Collections Officer or similar role within an art museum/gallery setting is preferred but not mandatory. Associate-level experience will also be considered.

Other Requirements:

-A strong passion for history/culture/arts preservation is essential.

-Familiarity with ethical considerations related to handling sensitive historical objects/artifacts is desired.
