Description:

NTAIC is a corporate Commonwealth entity, established under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act (Northern Territory) 1976, and designed in partnership with Aboriginal Territorians. Our purpose is to work with Aboriginal Territorians to achieve economic, social and cultural impact through innovative approaches to investments, beneficial payments and other financial assistance. To support this, we have initial grant funding of $180 million and an investment corpus of $500 million. Our Aboriginal-controlled board share a vision of self-determination, with Aboriginal Territorians at the centre of NTAIC’s work.

Position Purpose:

The Senior Economic Policy Officer reports to NTAIC’s General Manager (Strategic Policy and Advocacy) and is responsible for the development of high-quality economic policy analysis and advice.

Key responsibilities include:

• Working closely with NTAIC’s Corporate, Investments and Grants and Collective Impact teams, conduct research and analysis and develop economic policy advice on emerging issues, trends and opportunities to support Aboriginal development in the Northern Territory.

• Prepare timely and well-researched briefs and papers for the consideration of NTAIC’s Senior Executives, Board and Committees.

• Identify and develop timely and high-level strategic advice and analysis to address complex generalist and economic policy issues.

• Contribute to the development of internal frameworks, plans, policies and procedures relating to NTAIC’s Investments, Grants and Corporate functions.

• Identify, establish and maintain effective working relationships with potential private and public sector partners, including across government.

• Provide research and analysis on different policy areas and contexts where required.

Your tertiary qualifications and passion, commitment and cultural capability to work with Aboriginal people and communities to achieve self-determination will be vital to your success in this role, as will your:

• Demonstrated ability to provide sound, well-formulated, evidence-based advice on economic policy issues.

• Demonstrated ability to undertake economic analysis and to communicate any insights clearly to a non-technical audience.

• Demonstrated high level interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including an ability to represent views and negotiate successfully.

• Excellent problem solving and strategic skills, including an ability to involve oneself and others in a process to achieve a shared goal or resolve differences.

• Demonstrated ability to adapt to different policy areas and contexts, and to switch easily from working at a level of detail to working on larger strategic issues.

• Demonstrated ability to respond flexibly to changing priorities, show initiative and manage highly sensitive issues with tact, discretion and strict confidentiality.
