About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Benchman / Sawyer to join our team based at our Nowra mill site, where you will play an important role in our production process by performing various sawing tasks to produce useable lumber. You will use your expertise to produce high quality products whilst minimizing waste.
Our site runs over 4 days, Monday to Thursday 6:00am – 4:20pm. Whilst this is a permanent full-time position, we would also be open to receiving speculative applications and can discuss alternative flexibility if required.
Key responsibilities include:

• Skilful operation of machinery and equipment to saw, plane and shape timber to meet customer specifications.
• Setting up, programming, adjustments of machinery and selection of appropriate blades to ensure a precise cut.
• Routinely inspect and maintain saw blade conditions to ensure they are operating at peak efficiency.
• Breaking cants down into boards, dunnage and other product.
• The use of sound judgement when making decisions with due regard to employee health and safety.

About You:

• Previous knowledge and experience of woodworking techniques is essential.
• A background in the operation and maintenance of sawing equipment.
• Grey Bench experience and exposure to breaking cants down is advantageous.
• The ability to read and understand blueprints and other specifications.
• A keen eye for detail.
• Strong commitment to safety and quality
• Have a positive attitude, be both reliable and punctual.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
