The Governance and Ports Team provides strategic Ministerial advice on commercial and policy matters related to ports in Queensland and provides governance, performance and oversight of government owned transport entities. The team works closely with Queensland Treasury in managing the State's interests in the operations of government owned transport businesses.

In the role of Principal Advisor, you will lead the analysis of statutory reporting, performance monitoring and oversight of the entities, provide advice on commercial operations, planning or governance matters, and provide input into policies and practices.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Analyse and prepare authoritative and timely advice on the financial and strategic performance of state-owned transport entities in meeting Ministerial and departmental expectations and relevant legislative requirements.
• Provide accurate and timely advice on commercial and policy matters including proposed opportunities and issues relating to the transport entities, infrastructure development proposals and port land management matters.
• Assist in the development and implementation of strategic transport policies, plans and strategies, and a range of activities relating to the governance of government owned transport enterprises.
• Prepare high-level briefing notes, submissions, reports and other project-related documents and general correspondence, within tight timeframes and in accordance with divisional protocols.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders such as branch content specialists, Maritime Safety Queensland and officers from Queensland Treasury, port GOCs and Transmax, as well as staff from other government departments and local government.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
• Knowledge of Queensland's transport sector, with a focus on ports, transport systems and related commercial operations.
• Experience working with government-owned entities, and/or government infrastructure projects.
• Strong communication, engagement, negotiation and relationship management skills, with the ability to tailor messages to resonate with stakeholders of diverse interests and backgrounds.
• Experience in effectively leading a team and/or a project, with a focus on monitoring against key performance indicators.
• Problem-solving and critical thinking skills to assess issues, anticipate risks, and develop innovative and evidence-based solutions.
